Training at all levels is
available on Saturdays during our training season, which runs from May
until September. Full or half-day sessions can be booked for the amount
of training you require. It is not necessary to join the sailing club to
take part in Saturday training. The training fleet includes Topper and Laser Pico dinghies, and a Hobie 16 catamaran.
Try Sailing taster session.
If you have never sailed before and want to try it out before
committing to a training course, we offer “have a go” sessions. We will
take you for a sail on a dinghy or catamaran, all equipment provided.
These 2 hour sessions are available on Saturdays during our training
season, either 10:00am to 12:00am or 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Pre-booking
essential. Available to adults and children age 10+.
Try sailing session: £20 per person
Start Sailing (formerly RYA level 1)
This course gets you started using a mix of crewed dinghies with an
instructor aboard and single-handed dinghies. After completion you will
know about launching and recovering your boat, and be able to sail
effectively in light winds under supervision.
Course duration – 2 days (4 sessions).
Basic Skills (formerly RYA level 2)
This course is recommended as a follow-up from the Start Sailing course.
By the end of the course the successful sailor will be safety conscious
and have a basic knowledge of sailing in light winds without an
instructor. The course includes sailing theory and a controlled capsize
recovery with a rescue boat in attendance.
Course duration – 3 days (6 sessions).
Improver Courses
Once you have completed the basic skills course, we can offer further
training sessions including learning about racing, using spinnakers,
seamanship, and sailing catamarans.
